burda’s verena
May 29th, 2008 — CynThis is old news over on Ravelry, but it was new to me when I ran across it at Borders last Saturday afternoon:

I couldn’t quite reconcile “Europe’s Top Knitting Magazine” with “Premier Issue” nor the New York and Illinois locations in the masthead information until I read “North American issue” in the editor’s column.
Of the fifty-plus patterns in this magazine, 41 are pictured on the contents page! There are a total of 16 ads in the 113 pages plus the back cover… and… there is only ONE subscription insert (at least in the one I picked up, nothing fell out either).
The pattern section is in the center rather than the end of the photo layout. I think I like this; the magazine might stay open to the patterns more easily this way.
There are minimal articles and columns (editor, “Runway Trends” “Web Words” and “New Bits”) — this is a pattern book at a great price! I think I’ll be checking this one again.
(There are already corrections on the website for the Summer 2008 issue, so check before you knit!)
